Personal Scent Based on Individual's Major Histocompatibility (MHC) Genetics
Project Description
NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
LONG-TERM TESTING
Pharmacogenetics Laboratory needed to work on an art installation creating personal scents based on an individual's major histocompatibility (MHC) genetics. We would like to determine the project's feasibility and develop the scientific process for identifying, capturing, and synthesizing a person's unique MHC scent. The process would involve identifying MHC proteins from a sample and then recreating these using synthetic versions of key compounds. We would also be interested in recreating a scent profile not specific to MHCs through analyzing VOCs (volatile organic compounds) via GC-MS (Gas chromatography?mass spectrometry), and then attempting to recreate the odor profile.
