AOAC and EPA Swimming Pool Disinfectant Efficacy Testing (2 Studies: 1 Non-GLP and 1 GLP)
Project Description
USA LABORATORY
USA EPA GLP laboratory needed for AOAC and EPA Test Method Testing of swimming pool disinfectants. This study will consist of two trials with the first being non-GLP and then the GLP would commence.
To perform the microbiological, trace metals, and free chlorine analyses associated with the disinfectant efficacy testing of a Halohydantoin Compound mixed with a trace amount of Silver. The main test method would be the AOAC Official Method 965.13 Disinfectants (Water) for Swimming Pools (1970). At a high level the testing would require the following:
1. Prepare the liquid solutions from the starting Halohydantoin solid crystals and a liquid Silver standard solution
2. Measure the Free Chlorine concentration (~0.45ppm) by Hach DPD Colorimetric Method and also measure the Silver content (~5ppb) by ICP-MS
3. Perform the microbiological efficacy testing per the AOAC procedure:
a. Two organisms: E.Coli (ATCC 11229) and Enterococcus faecium (ATCC 6569)
b. Exposure Times: 30sec, 1min, 2min, 3min, 4min, 5min, 10min
c. 2 Test Substances + Control: 2 Haloydantoins (DCDMH, DCDMH/DCEMH) and NaOCl (Control)
The plan is to first run a Non-GLP trial to verify all the procedures work appropriately. Any adjustments to the procedure would be made and then the GLP trial would commence.
