Rock Borehole Sample Testing

Project Description

Doctoral Research Scientist needs South Africa Geology Laboratory for conducting several tests on 40-50 near-surface samples from outcrops and shallow boreholes (like 30m) taken intra-cratonic basin, with no well or seismic data for the following

1. Total organic carbon (TOC) determination to estimate the quantity of organic matter in each sample;

2. Rock-Eval pyrolysis to determine the hydrocarbon generative potential of the organic matter (S1, S2, S3, Tmax, and the derivatives: HI, OI);

3. Vitrinite reflectivity (Ro%) to determine the maturity of the envisaged source rocks;

4. Visual kerogen analysis (palynofacies analysis);

5. Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) for biomarker assessments of the n-alkane distribution, pristane/phytane ratios.

6. Fluid inclusion analysis for paleotemperature and fluid composition
