Laboratory Test Request

Project Description

Contract Research Organization needed for pharmaceutical clinical study on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in drug users (n = ~400). PrEP involves taking a daily dose of antiretroviral medication, Truvada (Tenofovir/emtricitabine), to lower individual's chances of acquiring HIV. As one of our primary outcomes, we are measuring PrEP adherence over time. Based on our preliminary research and correspondences with our collaborators, we found 4 different measures to assess adherence to PrEP (Tenofovir/emtricitabine).

1. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)
2. Dried blood spots (DBS)
3. Hair collection
4. Single plasma samples

We want to know which assessment method would be the most helpful and cost-effective for measuring Tenofovir and/or emtricitabine adherence.
