Military-Grade Nitrocellulose Quality & Chemical Testing
Project Description
MULTIPLE TESTING
We have a Military-grade nitrocellulose cargo on the way, and we are looking for a Greece or Romania-based lab to test it for the following:
1. Nitrogen Content
- Purpose: Determines energy potential
- Method: Kjeldahl method or Dumas combustion
- Military-grade: Often >12.6%, for high performance
2. Solubility Test
- Purpose: Checks solubility in alcohol-ether and acetone
- Standard: Determines cellulose nitrate purity and plasticizer compatibility
3. Viscosity
- Method: Ubbelohde or Ostwald viscometer
- Purpose: Indicates polymer chain length (important for ballistic properties)
4. Ash Content
- Purpose: Detects inorganic residues
- Limit: Typically <0.05%
5. Moisture Content
- Method: Karl Fischer or drying oven
- Standard: <1% to ensure stability
6. Heat Stability Test
- Method: Heat 1g at 134°C and observe color change
- Purpose: Checks decomposition resistance
- Standard: No color change within 2 hours (varies by spec)
7. Acidity (pH or Free Acid Test)
- Purpose: Measures residual acids
- Requirement: pH usually neutral or slightly acidic
8. Bulk Density / Particle Size
- For consistent performance in loading applications
Reference Specifications:
- NATO: STANAG 4170, AOP-7 (explosives qualification)
- U.S. MIL-SPEC: MIL-DTL-24461 (nitrocellulose), MIL-STD-286 (chemical tests)
