Disinfectant Activity Measurement on Closed Foam Tiles
Project Description
We're looking to test the antimicrobial/disinfectant activity per the ASTM E2197 standard on closed foam tiles. The following are the details:
- Preparation of Test Organisms: Cultures of target bacteria commonly found in aquatic environments, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, are prepared.
- Creation of the 'Dirty Slurry': A mixture containing organic materials (e.g., proteins, blood, or soil) is combined with the bacterial cultures to create a challenging test soil that simulates real-life contamination.
- Application to Test Surfaces: The dirty slurry is applied to standardized test surfaces or carriers, which are then allowed to dry, mimicking contaminated surfaces in actual settings.
- Disinfectant Application: The disinfectant or sanitizer under evaluation is applied to the contaminated surfaces following the manufacturer's recommended contact time and conditions.
- Neutralization and Recovery: After the contact time, any remaining active disinfectant is neutralized, and the surfaces are sampled to recover any surviving microorganisms.
- Enumeration of Survivors: The recovered microorganisms are cultured, and the number of surviving bacteria is quantified to determine the disinfectant's efficacy.
