Laboratory Test Request

Acetaldehyde Adsorption Capacity Testing for Activated Carbon

Project Description

MULTIPLE SAMPLES

LONG-TERM

BUDGET APPROVED ($5,000-$10,000)

USA / UK Analytical chemistry laboratory needed for testing adsorption capability of Activated Carbon for acetaldehyde in a simulated gut environment using the following method:

- Different weights of carbon bead (0.001-0.005 g) to be incubated with 1 ml of
simulated intestinal fluid (Sigma-Aldrich) (22mM Sodium hydroxide, 50mM
Potassium phosphate) at 37°C for 2 hours.

- A 7.2 mM spike (0.1 g/ml) of
acetaldehyde to be added at 4° C.

- Eppendorfs to be centrifuged (8000 rpm for 3
minutes) at a range of time intervals up to 30 minutes following addition of
acetaldehyde spike.

- Acetaldehyde adsorption to be measured using a derivatization
method with 2-diphenylacetyl-1,3-indandione-1-hydrazone (DIH) and HPLC analysis.
