Overview

EM Analytical combines expertise from a broad array of scientific and technical fields to provide state-of-the-art analytical services. From single samples to in-depth investigations, our flexible approach means we can adapt to suit your requirements.

We provide analytical services for both academic and commercial research and development projects, as well as independent quality control and failure analysis. Our services include electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, chemical analysis, lithography and nanofabrication, biochemical assays, microbiology and cell culture.

Standards & Methodologies

We provide characterisation and testing services for a wide variety of industries. If you don't see what you need in the list below please speak to us, we specialise in process development.

  • Optical microscopy for widefield characterisation, including metallurgy, grain size distribution analysis, failure analysis and metrology
  • Confocal fluorescence microscopy for in vitro assays, including live/dead assays, internalisation studies and immunocytochemistry
  • Polarised light microscopy for quantification and orientation of birefringent materials
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for metrology, failure analysis, particulate debris, size and shape distribution measurements and fracture surfaces
  • Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX/EDS) for measuring composition, including elemental mapping for contamination identification, inclusions and corrosion
  • Low pressure scanning electron microscopy for analysis of non-conductive materials such as fibres, ceramics and plastics
  • Cryo-SEM for imaging liquids, emulsions, creams and biological tissue
  • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for high resolution analysis of biological tissue, cultured cells, bacteria, proteins, viruses, nanoparticles, metallography, and grain structures
  • Real-time PCR for detection and quantification of nucleic acids when testing for SARS-CoV-2, legionella, sexually transmitted infections, and other pathogens
  • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for rapid genomic testing for common genetic markers for cancer, characterising the oral microbiome, and testing for other inherited diseases
  • Cell culture and in vitro assay development, including live/dead assays, cytotoxicity studies, and pre-clinical research
  • Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for chemical analysis
  • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for crystallography, phase identification, quantification and orientation in powders and thin films

Qualifications, Certifications, Accreditations & Licenses

EM Analytical's Quality Management System is accredited to ISO 9001 to ensure traceability and repeatability.
We are also accredited to ISO 17025 for Testing within the scope of testing for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR and Next Generation Sequencing.
Our Project Manager, Dr David Huskisson, is a Fellow of the Royal Microscopy Society.
