Webinar: Assessing the Flammability Hazards of Modern Refrigerant Blends

07/20/2018

Regulatory actions, focused on promoting environmental sustainability, are driving the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) industry toward the use of lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants many of which are flammable. This session will provide an overview of flammability parameters and refrigerant safety classes, and include a summary of ongoing codes and standards activities related to flammable refrigerants.

To be marketed in the US, new refrigerant blends need to have both a Refrigerant Designation Number (R Number) and be assigned a Safety Classification through a rigorous testing process that conforms to the requirements of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34 -2016, Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants.

Webinar participants will learn the required steps in flammability determination for new refrigerant blends required to support a submission to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34 for assignment of Safety Classification rating and a R Number.

Join us for this webinar. During this informative presentation, we will discuss:

  • The driving force behind innovation in the refrigerant marketplace, and why flammable refrigerants are of interest.
  • Safety concerns raised by the use of flammable refrigerants
  • Safety classification of refrigerant blends required by ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34.
  • Flammability requirements for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34 submission.
  • Blend fractionation study
  • Flammability tests and apparatus
  • Burning velocity test and apparatus
