Laboratory Safety

Depending on the type of laboratory, the following laboratory safety procedures and precautions maybe in effect. Please note that this is not an all inclusive list and may vary depending upon the type of laboratory.

• Proper eye protection maybe required for anyone entering laboratories. . Where splashing chemicals or flying particle hazards may exist, the appropriate glasses with side shields, goggles, or face shields should be used.
• Before starting a laboratory testing, experiments, research or analysis, review the procedures, identify any possible hazards and plan accordingly.
• Appropriate protective clothing should be worn when handling acids or bases, caustic chemicals, and blood items.
• All spills should be properly cleaned in a timely manner.
• Have fire extinguishers, safety showers, eye wash stations, and first aid kits in each laboratory and peridocially test or check the safety equipment and safety supplies.
