Genome Editing Standards Workshop

04/29/2016

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host a special workshop in partnership with the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ASGCT) to discuss the standardization of measurements for the genome editing field. NIST, as an unbiased standards and measurement expert organization, will bring together FDA regulators and genome editing field experts representing academia, commercial industry, and informatics/data. With the input of these various stakeholders, we will discuss how standards for measurements of off-target effects and other parameters can be established, with the goal of fostering competitive innovation that will enable new products and therapies to come to market.

This is a one-day workshop to work as a community to begin identifying measurement assurance/standards barriers, gaps and potential solutions for the genome editing field. We view this workshop as the first in a series of meetings that will help to advance the needs of the community for standards and measurement assurance.

NIST is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce and serves as the nation?s measurement institute, supplying unbiased expertise in measurements and standards to support growth in all sectors of economy and commerce including health care and the bio-economy.
