Analytical chemistry laboratory needed for HPLC, SEM, or FTIR soap testing for Identification of white powder being formed soap bars being manufactured in large quantities after the curing process. The white powder just started forming after larger amounts of organic caffeine was added during the mixing process and the soap bars are curing for more than 48 hours. Pictures can be provided with a basic microscopeexam with 1,000x magnification to determine that this powder was not mold, however, the lab I used does not have HPLC, SEM, or FTIR available for further testing.
I believe that the white powder could be either soda ash (sodium carbonate) or possibly caffeine, since we add organic caffeine powder to the soap bar. A quick Google search reveals that many lye soap manufacturers have issues with a white powder on their soap bars which turns out to be sodium carbonate. The other material I am guessing it could be is the organic caffeine powder.
I would like to determine what exactly this white substance is on the exterior of the soap bar. I would also like a caffeine test on the soap bar so that we can determine how much caffeine is in the soap bar.
