Spring Valley is licensed by the USDA (51-R-051) as an animal research facility and is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALACi). The facility has filed an Assurance of Compliance with the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (OLAW A3731-01), and is licensed by the state of Maryland to use radioactive materials. A DEA license to use Schedule 2 through 4 controlled substances is also in effect. An Animal Care and Use Committee reviews and approves all study designs.
