The Toray Group has been building a research and technology development system since 1985 around the core of the Technology Center, which is in charge o f drafting groupwide strategy and proposing key projects.
The Technology Center is run with an umbrella management system that connects the technical departments of the Manufacturing Division with the Research & Development Division, the Engineering Division, technology development sections in each business division, and others to pursue closely coordinated development. Individual research laboratories and technology development departments were originally set up to handle R&D for a particular business field, and they can now all participate in cross-organization technical exchanges through the Fundamental T echnologies Liaison Conferences , aimed a t cultivating fusion research and cross-fertilization in fundamental technologies.
